These are some online music retailers that we at Musical Warfare frequently use and highly recommend:

The End Records / The Omega Mailorder

The End Records is home to a colorful list of bands, including Agalloch, Sigh, The Gathering, and Ulver.  They also have one of the best online stores of any of the major metal record labels.  Their prices and selection are excellent, and I've generally received CDs within a few days after ordering them.

Amazon.com

Amazon's extreme music selection is surprisingly good.  There are several other compelling reason to shop there as well:

  • They're a huge, worldwide online retailer, so trust and security are not issues.
  • You can sometimes snag used versions of albums, or even new versions at ridiculously low prices. 
  • They've just recently launched the Amazon MP3 store, so you can now get 256kbps mp3 versions of some albums for pretty low prices as well.
  • If you live in other countries (or if you're desperate for an album that Amazon.com doesn't carry) you can check the other Amazon sites: Amazon.de and Amazon.co.uk both have great selection, especially of hard-to-find European albums.

Aquarius Records

This San Francisco, CA record shies away from mainstream music and fills its catalog with the most obscure stuff it can find.  One of the owners also runs Tumult Records, which has released albums by Weakling, Draugar, Crebian, and Leviathan, so they know their stuff.  If there's some ultra-obscure album that the above stores don't have, you have a good chance of finding it here.  Another great thing about Aquarius is the lengthy review blurbs they have for each album.  It's a great way to find out more about an obscure band, as well as discover new artists in the process.

Moribund Records

Moribund Records is another US metal label/distro that does a good job with their online store.  As a label they tend toward black metal - Sargeist, Fear of Eternity and Winter of Apocalypse are some examples.  The online store is pretty extensive, so your chances of finding what you're looking for there are pretty good.

Profound Lore

Profound Lore is another US label, and their artist list is quite impressive - Alcest, Agalloch, ISIS, Leviathan, Nadja, Nachtmystium, and it keeps going.  They take their music seriously.  Their online store is decent, and somewhat similar to Aquarius's in that you'll find some pretty obscure stuff there.  

Southern Lord

The Southern Lord label is probably familiar to most people who are into the US metal scene.  Sunn O))), Wolves in the Throne Room, Boris, Khanate, Glorior Belli, Earth, and Om are some of the artists on their roster.  Their online store is not huge, but stocks releases from some of the best that metal has to offer.  You can also find some rarer items such as limited LPs there.

Crucial Blast

Crucial blast is yet another label and mailorder site.  They've put out releases by Aidan Baker, Skullflower, and Totimoshi among others, and will release Nadja's upcoming album "Desire In Uneasiness."  The webstore proclaims that you'll find "avant metal, outsider hardcore, infernal pych, heavy drones," which actually seems to be a pretty accurate description.
