Progressive rock/metal act Grayceon seemingly came out of nowhere with their highly-acclaimed 2007 self-titled debut album.  The band includes Jackie Perez-Gratz (Amber Asylum, Giant Squid) on electric cello and vocals, along with guitarist/vocalist Max Doyle and drummer Zack Farwell.  Grayceon uses this unique combination of instruments to craft lengthy, dynamic songs that span the genres of metal, progressive rock and post-rock.

Canadian drone/experimental duo Nadja has made ‘Base Fluid’ from 2007’s "Corrasion" release available as an internet single, along with an exclusive, unreleased track titled ‘Numb.’  Together two tracks clock in at over 30 minutes.

Also available for download is a compilation-only track titled ‘Dropped.’  Dropped appears on the "Larimas de Miedo 13: Parhelie" compilation, which accompanied issue No. 13 of the French magazine Fear Drop.  ‘Dropped’ is rather unlike much of Nadja’s other work in that it features a more prominent beat, but the typical wash of guitar tone is of course still present.  The sound quality is not the greatest, but ‘Dropped’ is worth a listen nonetheless.

Crumbling Flesh (Godflesh.com) covers everything Godflesh and Jesu-related, and currently this includes an MP3 download section featuring several Godflesh and Jesu live recordings.  Of particular interest are recordings of Godflesh’s final live performance, and recordings from Jesu’s first ever tour.  You’ll also find some live Jesu recordings from 2007, which include some songs from the "Conqueror" release.

Demo release "Dark Space -1" by Switzerland’s Darkspace is available for free download from their website.  Darkspace plays highly atmospheric, fuzzed-out black metal with a bit of electronic influence.  Paysage d’Hiver frontman Wintherr is also a member of Darkspace.

Maeror Tri’s pulsing soundscapes are unsettling in a subtle, subconscious sort of way.  The now-defunct German dark ambient group specialized in a droning, effects-based sound, borrowing influences from several other genres as well.  One of their earlier cassette recordings, "Ambient Dreams," has been re-mastered and converted to MP3 format, and is available at the ZNS tapes website:

Demilich is one of those rare ultra-technical death metal bands that is not only extremely talented, but manages to create a sound unmistakably their own amongst a genre full of frustratingly similar-sounding bands.  Demilich features twisted, labyrinthine riffing with unconventional harmonies and a trademark guttural, totally unintelligable, almost spoken vocal delivery.  The band played its final shows in July of 2006, and produced a single full length album titled "Nespithe."  Owing to some sort of disagreement between the band and the current distributor of their albums, Demilich has made their entire catalog available for free as MP3 downloads on their website, along with lyrics and album artwork.
