Black Metal Documentary “Until the Light Takes Us” Coming Soon
A feature-length documentary entitled "Until the Light Takes Us" has recently completed editing and is being submitted to various film festivals, according to the film’s MySpace page. The documentary gives an in-depth, honest look at the Norwegian black metal scene, covering everything from the musical and artistic ideologies to the scene’s murder and arson-filled early days. A comprehensive list of guest appearances and interviews includes Darkthrone’s Fenriz and Nocturno Culto, Mayhem’s Hellhammer and Blasphemer, Ivar Bjornson of Enslaved, Varg Vikernes of Burzum, Ulver’s Kris "Garm" Rygg, Satyricon’s Frost, Abbath and Demonaz from Immortal, and several others.
On a related note, Nocturno Culto has released a black metal documentary of his own, called "The Misanthrope." Probably geared more toward Darkthrone fans, the film nevertheless provides an interesting glimpse into the Norwegian black metal scene and lifestyle. It includes some rare Darkthrone performances, footage of the band rehearsing, trips into the forest, and a stop in Japan for a black metal photography exhibit. You can buy "The Misanthrope" at Amazon, and check out a trailer at "The Misanthrope" website.
